A wall of new release tapes1985 – 2014

About the role

For thirty years, Friday night started at the video store. People wandered the aisles, argued about what to rent and asked the clerk for a recommendation. Clerks knew every film in the store, had strong opinions about most of them and kept a list of who still owed late fees.

At Reel Time Video, a replica store with a full wall of new releases, you'll run the counter on the evening shift. You'll check films in and out, chase overdue rentals, rewind the tapes that come back unrewound and write staff picks on index cards. Members will ask for “something good”. You'll know exactly what they mean.

What you'll do

  • Check rentals in and out at the counter.
  • Rewind every tape that comes back unrewound, with a small sigh.
  • Call customers about overdue rentals and collect late fees.
  • Write your staff picks on index cards and change them weekly.
  • Restock the new releases wall every Tuesday.

What we're looking for

  • Encyclopedic film knowledge, or strong opinions.
  • A firm but friendly manner with late fees.
  • Patience with people who can't remember the title.
  • A blue polo shirt.

Perks

  • Five free rentals a week
Plus first pick of the new releases, before they hit the shelf.
  • Your own staff picks shelf
Members will judge you by it.
  • Popcorn from the machine
Free for staff. The smell never quite leaves.
